Donner Lake State Park

Donner Lake is on the Eastern Slope just over the pass. The altitude is almost 6000 feet andit is frequently frozen in the winter. The nature trail is often productive for birders. The bridge over a creek just past the entrance station (walk in for free) frequently shelters an American Dipper.

Birds:Red Crossbill, White Headed Woodpecker, Black-backed Woodpecker, American Dipper, California Gull, Wilson's Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Evening Grosbeak, Mountain Chickadee, Warbling Vireo, assorted waterfowl in season and a Vaux's Swift. A Yellow-Headed Blackbird was reported near the lakes outside the park to the South.
