is a mature White Fir forest set aside by the USFS as potential Spotted Owl
habitat. This is a magical place at dawn and dusk in the spring as Hermit Thrushes
greet and send off the day with their haunting songs.

Van Norden is a charm that is frequently overlooked as it sits close to a couple
of ski resorts and is quite close to I-80.
Perimenter
Rd. runs off of lower McCourtney Rd. into the western end of Nevada County (most
maps exagerate its extent).
Donner
Lake is on the Eastern Slope just over the pass. The nature trail is often productive
for birders.
Cascade
Canal Trail follows the Cascade Canal, an irrigation canal operated by Nevada
Irrigation District. Springtime is amazing along the trail.
